Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen

3.0

I have recently read Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen, then watched two versions of it. Ingrid Bergman and a more recent version starring Rita Ramnani. What a play! I bet the world could be split down the middle as to whether they feel sympathy or revulsion for Hedda, I came out feeling sympathy. She is cruel and nasty but desperate. Thank goodness for a female character that isn’t angelic, which was how women were more often portrayed then. No wonder audiences were shocked and horrified. Definitely a play worth reading and watching.
