Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver
5.0
Listen, I realize that this book isn't for everyone. I read this with a fun group and the discussions were lively. The range fell from DNF - loved it. That really goes to show that what you like might not be for others and vice versa AND that is okay!
For me, this one was great. I did both audio and physical and let me tell you, the audio was something else! I loved the dual narrators on audio and the way they played off each other. I immediately shifted how I viewed this after a few chapters, it was giving quirky but fun and I allowed myself to be taken in with the story rather than focus on aspects that were questionable.
Rowan and Sloane had such fun banter and at first their lack of confidence with each other when they are both serial killers had me confused, but once I understood that it was likely their tepid behavior in person stemmed from being seen on a deep level they show no one, well, I was able to be swept up in them.
I will say that the pacing of the timeline wasn't exactly what I would have wanted but it also didn't bother me. I would have liked more plot in their schemes together though. In terms of 'dark' it didn't feel like a dark read to me and maybe that means I read some messed up stuff but this wasn't that bad.
Definitely looking forward to Lark and Lachlan's book next.
