Meet Chris: an ethical anti-billionaire dentist-scientist-professor who plays piano and likes 90s rap. Man, do I love a hot nerd. FULL SWOON. He is a 36 year old practicing Dentist, freelance forensic odontologist, and assistant professor with a secret Daddy kink. Like I said, a hot nerd. Chris is set on not living on his rich AF family’s hefty bank account in an attempt to atone for his ancestors’ less than ethical means of obtaining said money. He’s a little straight-laced. Not really a cinnamon roll, more of a plain sticky bun.
Meet Daphne: a bubbly, neurodivergent, blue collar 24 year old grad student, forensic assistant, and part-time mechanic. Daphne loves the traditions of the Christmas season, mainly because she’s trying to make up for the sh*tty childhood she endured. She wants to start sharing and creating those traditions with Chris.
I know Insta-Love is a controversial trope, but I tend to love it. Especially when the spice hits early at 15% in! And holy hell was it HOT. The whole first half of the book was them doing dirty dirty things to each other and I was here for it. Turns out Professor Chris has some secret naughty kinks, and Daphne is into it.
Remember how ethical Chris tries to be? Yeah well, turns out doing the “right thing” can sometimes cost you what you really want. And in trying to do that “right thing”, you can also turn into a real d!ck. I did not appreciate how quickly Chris turned into a total d-bag towards Daphne when the main conflict arose. She refused to give in, though, and kept reminding him of what he’d be missing out on. Good for you, girl!
Final thoughts:
This was an entertaining, hot, spicy, road trip rom-com that roped in me from the start. I was not expecting the main conflict when it arose, but really liked how the author had it play out. Everything was neatly wrapped up into a nice little Christmas present at the end, including the mystery skull. And the epilogue?!
