Blackberry Winter by Sarah Jio
5.0
Another amazing book by Sarah Jio. I started this last night (after having download issues on my nook), and read well into the night. I didn't want to put it down. All I could think about at work was what would happen with Vera and if Claire would solve the mystery (and all the men I work with had to hear about it all day today).
What I love about Blackberry Winter (and equally loved about Violets of March and The Bungalow) is the juxtaposition between the modern and the historical. As a history lover, this is a great format of a dual story, and I find that in Jio's writing, I care equally about both halves of the story (NOT the norm when I read books like this).
With Claire researching the mystery of what happened to Daniel on that fateful day in 1933, I found myself surprised by many turns in the book (others were a bit more obvious). And, I have to say that I loved the ending -- it was not how I envisioned it going, but how I was rooting for it to end.
