Five French Hens by Judy Leigh

Eye rolls and snoozing

Honestly, this book was so .... boring? Dated? All over the place? I really wanted to love this book... but it fell short on every level and I forced myself to get through it. The beginning was slow, the middle was fine and the ending was blah. Maybe it’s because I’m not an older woman in my 70s that I felt disconnected from this the storyline. I’m not sure what I hated more, the controlling male figures that don’t want the women in their life to do anything or the women characters writing this off as “safe” and “comforting” in a way. And what is with the random side stories about some of the women being tempted to have an affair that turned into sexual harassment stories during a “hen” party. And then with the story line of Pam the single woman of the group who had a dark past and let it control her life for 50 some odd years. It may be a generational divide and that I missed the point of this book but I could NOT stop rolling my eyes at this entire book. Not for nothing but what warm and uplifting book has weird side stories about sexual assault? I really wish this book was better than it was... so disappointed.
