Icebreaker by Hannah Grace

3.5

I think it's easy to hate on a book like this - that became MEGA popular and has been everywhere for over a year. But there were a lot of things I liked.

  1. The attitude towards sex, relationships, friends with benefits. I was surprised when Anastasia hooked up with Ryan, her longtime FWB, only to realize he wasn't the hero. But the healthy relationship between them, Ryan's new girlfriend (both are very minor characters), and Nate was refreshing. Anastasia likes sex and she's not going to apologize or be slut shamed for it.
  2. The realism of "I need to do this for my future." Anastasia is a pairs skater. It would be unrealistic for her to write off Aaron, her partner, without exercising second chances and other options. They've been skating together for years.
  3. That the book felt pretty low angst, despite the drama.
  4. The pairing/friendships of Anastasia with Nate's team/roommates was cute. I know some people will say it's a little over the top or fan fic-y but like... YEAH. When you date a guy you WANT all his friends to like you and help rip on him.
  5. The steam was fun. I SAID WHAT I SAID.

But really, how have I heard raves about this book for over a year and NO ONE mentioned the hero dressed up as sexy Gru (from Despicable Me) and banged the heroine in a club????
