Prospero's Children by Jan Siegel

5.0

The first time I read this book, I remember saying it was the "best fantasy novel I'd ever read." I remembered little else about it when I set about this re-read, other than it had to do with Atlantis. While it may not be the best fantasy novel I've read at this point, it is still one I hold near to my heart. Siegel's world of magic, house goblins, ancient spirits, witches, portals, and mermaids is beautiful. Her writing is lush and elegant, just a bit of old-world fantasy writing thrown in with a story about a self-possessed young English girl who's playing at grown up. I'm so glad this book lived up to my prior five star rating.
