The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan

5.0

“Families are messy. Immortal families are eternally messy. Sometimes the best we can do is to remind each other that we’re related, for better or worse…and try to keep the maiming and killing to a minimum”. ~ Hermes

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Sea of Monsters continues Percy Jackson's captivating journey, albeit with some mixed feelings. Percy's open-mindedness towards Tyson's cyclops nature is commendable, showcasing his unbiased perspective on monsters. However, Annabeth's character left me questioning her logic, particularly her persistent blame on all cyclops for Thalia's fate, which felt immature and uncharacteristic. Grover's resourcefulness and Tyson's endearing innocence were highlights, adding depth to the ensemble cast. Despite Clarisse's impulsiveness leading to dire consequences, the characters' resilience shines through.

The atmospheric setting was immersive, although I struggled to visualize certain locations. Riordan's accessible writing style kept the story engaging, though I wished for more detailed descriptions in certain scenes. The plot, while enjoyable, felt somewhat rushed, leaving me craving more depth and exploration. Despite this, the intrigue remained, propelling the narrative forward.

While not surpassing the brilliance of the first book, The Sea of Monsters still provided an enjoyable experience with its lovable characters and thrilling adventures. I eagerly anticipate diving into the next installment, eager to see where Percy's quest leads next.
