The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

5.0

This book was all over my news feed on Instagram so I immediately put it on my TBR, but the more I saw it and all of the fantastic reviews I read about it, I couldn’t wait any longer! I finished this book in 24 hours, couldn’t put it down.

Monique Grant has been singled out as the person who MUST conduct an exclusive interview with Hollywood star Evelyn Hugo. Hugo’s team, in contact with Monique’s magazine, are explicit: it’s Monique or nothing. This surprises everyone, especially Monique herself, but in need of a distraction from her own life and the urge to prove herself a professional writer - she grabs the opportunity with both hands.

Evelyn Hugo is now in the winter of her life, she is still a household name after decades of successful movies, a stream of tabloid scandals and a mysterious personal life behind her. The question everyone wants to know: out of her seven marriages - who was her true love? Monique is under the impression, considering she is the first person to get an exclusive with Evelyn Hugo in decades, she will have little wiggle room in terms of the topics of her interview... oh how wrong she is.

I could not get enough of this book! It was absolutely incredible!!! The only devastating part is I worked out the MAJOR twisty secret right before it happened and I almost cried. So annoyed with myself! But other than that, this book brings to life the Hollywood scene of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s - the efforts you go to in order to be seen, or hidden from plain sight. I really liked the LGBTQ+ references in this story, I feel like it brought some incredibly important historical issues to light and it reminds us that the fight is still not over. A perfect read for me, highly recommend!
