Dinner for Vampires: Life on a Cult TV Show by Bethany Joy Lenz
informative
reflective
fast-paced
An interesting insight into the impact of cults on the lives of its members, even prolific ones, and the way it permeated through Joy's whole life, particularly whilst on One Tree Hill (though this is only a very small portion of this book). There was a lot of religious talk throughout this, and the first 30% was very heavily God and religion focused, which almost turned me away from reading it as I am, personally, not religious, but once we started to get into the cult side of things and got a bit more reflection from Joy herself on these experiences, I enjoyed it more. I listened to this as an audiobook and enjoyed the experience, though the narration did feel a bit clunky at times when it went from overly formal reading of the text, to kind of conversational with little laughs.
Graphic: Emotional abuse, Toxic relationship, and Gaslighting
Moderate: Child abuse and Rape
