Just when it seemed like Signa finally solved the mystery of the mysterious sickness that took a hold over her cousin, Blythe, and the killer who murdered Blythe’s mother, there were more secrets and mysteries to solve for Signa. This book yet again provided that hauntingly compelling story filled with mystery, secrets, intriguing characters, romance, and more. Imagine “Bridgerton” meets “Knives Out” meets ballroom dances, stolen moments of romance to the occasional twist and turn, and you’ve got an exciting story with, “Foxglove”. I really enjoyed this first book, “Belladonna”, so to now be back in the world with Signa and Death, I was ready to jump back into all things spooky, and paranormal!

The story immediately picked up right where the first book ended on a cliffhanger which caused quite a bit of chaos curtesy of, Fate. With Fate joining the story, he brought chaos and trouble into the storyline and made it much more difficult for Signa and Death. Just as Signa was starting to feel at ease, despite the physical distance between her and Death, it all seemed good, until Fate literally crashed the party, and decided he’d have some fun messing with Signa and Death. The animosity between Death and Fate was evident through the way the brothers argued and acted around one one. With Death and Fate still at odds, especially with Fate holding Death responsible for taking away the one person he loved, it seemed like Fate was more than happy to return the favor to Death by taking away the one person he loved, which was Signa. Even for the beginning part of the story, I was immediately immersed in the story, and it just reminded me how much I’ve come to love this series and its characters. There was already bits of details that slowly but surely set up the plot for this story, and I was curious to see how it would all unravel.
Fate wasn’t kidding when he made it his mission to come between Signa and Death. Fate was manipulative, cunning, sharp, and determined to win over Signa for himself, and with the added benefit of getting revenge against Death, Fate wasn’t exactly “good guy” in this story. With the introduction of Fate in the story, it not only caused conflict, but also shed light on some eye opening things specifically with Signa. In the previous book, it seemed like Signa’s abilities were explained, and it was a done deal right? Apparently not. The twists and turns were introduced even early on that had me doing a double take at what I read, and again with it mainly concerning Signa’s well being and the true extent of her powers, it was surprising to read what was revealed about her.
If you liked the love triangle trope or two brothers fighting over the same woman, then you’ll be pleased to hear this happens in this book. While Death and Signa loved each other, and always shared a deep connection together, with Fate’s arrival, not only did he stir things up, but apparently wanted Signa for himself! Even with certain things that Signa found out about herself and her supposed “past” with Fate, I was still Team Death! Signa just had that undeniable chemistry with Death, and I was rooting for my faves! Although, I will say as much as Fate caused a bit of mayhem with his presence, I did find it intriguing learning about who he was exactly, how he shared a connection with Signa, and while Fate was an extravagant, confident man, he revealed bits of his vulnerability around Signa. Two brothers fighting over Signa, my goodness!
The drama and conflict in this book had me on edge! Signa dealt with a lot from trying to solve another murder, dealing with Fate, and trying to find ways to be with her beloved, Death. Signa’s actions had consequences even from things she did in the first book which she knew sooner or later she’d have to answer to…namely to Blythe. With the way the story unraveled, you absolutely have to read the first book, otherwise it won’t make sense. Certain things that occurred towards the ending of the first book came back in this story, and caused Blythe to become suspicion of Signa. As much as Signa did what was necessary in order to save Blythe’s life, it seemed that Blythe came to the realization just how strange thing’s occurred around Signa. Signa and Blythe were like sisters, always close, but once Blythe was confronted with the truth about Percy (her older brother) and exactly what Signa was, it seemed like her again Signa lost someone close to her.
WOW! THE WAY THE STORY ENDED THIS TIME AROUND BLEW MY MIND! Just when I thought I knew what to expect, this story was filled with twists, turns, and major truth bombs that stole the show. While there was still the romance between Signa and Death, I feel like the story was more focused around Signa and Blythe as they navigated trying to solve Lord Wakefield’s murder, dealing with Fate, and more! Fate may have been a bit of the bad guy in the story, but I actually liked him, even though most of the time I got mad with his conniving ways of trying to ensnare Signa for himself, he was a pretty interesting character. Death was still protective over Signa and was determined to not only keep Signa safe, but make sure Fate didn’t get his hands on the LOVE OF HIS LIFE! Plus there was still those stolen moments that Death and Signa managed to have, though they weren’t as frequent, any spared time Death and Signa had was meaningful. I also really enjoyed getting to see more of Blythe because, I got to see her back alongside Signa healthy and better, still sassy as ever, determined to save her family, and clever in defying Fate again and again. Towards the end, the story just kept coming with the plot twists and turns, that by the very ending, I was still shook at what was revealed!!! I’m telling you, IT WAS SO GREAT! While I fell in love with the first book, this sequel was magical, fantastic, and a great lead up to Signa, Death, and now Fate and Blythe’s stories. Also, that epilogue was filled with even more juicy details, and definitely has me hooked already to read the next book! Highly recommend! Such a fun, exciting, mysterious, spooky, beautiful, romantic, charming story to read!
