Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse

2.0

No need to talk about what this book is about, it is written above…it is a beautiful book ( the penguin edition translated by Hilda Rosner) And has some truly beautiful passages…I read the start about five times because it felt a bit stumbling on the first read, but gradually I came to love it very much.
I have given it three stars because I just kept thinking of Siddharthas poor parents, who he left as a teenager never to see or contact again..and they had loved him so much. And then I am sorry but I just thought the moments of blinding understanding about life seemed pretty obvious to me and things we all learn as we age..I do get that this was one mans journey and sort of encompasses metaphorically what we all live through (maybe without the starvation and loin cloths). I think I would have loved it more when I was younger. It was good and thought provoking but not my favourite book ever.
