Cut by Patricia McCormick

I read this in essentially one sitting. And granted, it's short, but I was also waiting for it to be wrong, to ring false. And it never did. The amount of truth in these few pages is pretty incredible. I'm not sure I buy all the plot points of the story, particularly that of residential treatment for non-suicidal cutters, the author was spot-on with how it FEELS, what we're thinking, why it works, and why it's so hard to stop. I also appreciated the depiction of a really good therapist. Too often they're shown as Freudian or clueless or a Tool of the System. A good read; I'd recommend to anyone who either wants to understand cutting on a subjective rather than objective level, or to a cutter who doesn't want to feel quite so alone.
