Mrs Palfrey, being too posh to be put in a home, checks into The Claremont with an assortment of other posh old people and some hotel staff who'd prefer them not to live there.
Darkly humorous and very British. I enjoyed the almost love story style of Mrs Palfrey's relationship with a young writer who helps her after she falls over in the street and becomes her only friend.
We get little glimpses into each characters life and thoughts as they all discover the bleak disappointments of life alone.
Taylor's writing is lovely and poignant. Full of sadness, nostalgia and black comedy.
The ending is a little heartbreak.
