lighthearted

2.5

I am not a big romance person so I didn’t love it but that makes sense. It is still a basic story, just about lesbians and what happens with the main couple is not surprising in the slightest.
I have issues with a couple things though:
-the language used feels heteronormative. The MC describes her love interest in very basic terms and seems to be attracted to her like a man is to a woman. She’s sexy and has crazy abs thanks to Pilates but it feels like very superficial attirance.
-the sex scenes and sex talk are not great. It feels a bit generic and not very arousing.
-the internalized homophobia from the main character is not unsuspecting or surprising, especially because she’s new to all this, but it still is a bit upsetting. Not loving that.
-the predictability of the whole thing. Like the owner of the shop and what will happen in her story, her best friend and how it’s gonna go, etc. Now that’s not necessarily bad for some but I’m not the public for that.
There are some interesting topics in this story though with the ex and how her coming out goes or the reactions from other family members but even that is fast and hollow with missing parts like how it evolves and such. The relationship of the main couple is also meh. It’s fast and I know some go fast like that but still.
Anyway, it was alright at best. I will not be reading the following books. I was in a hurry to finish it honestly.
