Too didactic, over constructed and the plot was weak in comparison to the soap box the author was on. 

And talking about soap box - I felt that the disability that the author was highlighted was underrepresented in terms of the character and his feelings. It maybe changes further into the novel but I felt I would have liked to hear more about Eugene and less about precocious Mia!

Plus the plot was really forced together - the thriller aspect of the storyline wedged between these long diatribes of Mia's felt jarring to me.
