I'm DNFing this book @ page 167 just because this book didn't vibe well with me personally. I do think middle-grade readers will enjoy this book more than me, but I'm not a big fan of super whimsical books that doesn't have a lot of explanation behind it. I get a lot of Harry Potter & Alice in Wonderland vibes from this book, with the magical boarding school and whimsical writing style so give this book a try if you are interested in that kind of thing!
While this book did have a unique magic system and lots of fun creatures, I couldn't connect to the main character, and the writing style just wasn't keeping me hooked and intrigued, unfortunately. :(
