Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas
2.0
2.5:
Boy the last 2 hours maybe really pack a punch, but boy are they unearned! And make me angry. Imagine if the haunting, thrilling, and enticing tale of Nehemia who sacrificed herself for the good of the world was the story we were told directly instead of the signifcantly less enticing tale of Aelin, who has continued to do nothing but annoy me. I WANT to like a story that is about the sacrifices one makes out of duty for their people, in fact I do, but maybe do not have that be the last third (generous) of your book. Maybe don't kill characters because it will "break" other characters. Maybe I'm an adult and cannot STAND to listen to a book where villains are malicious and that's it . BOY.
The characters continue to be Bad, and I get the sense that SJM doesn't have a clear picture of any of them, except maybe Rowan and maybe Nehemia, who is three books dead. The book continues to be, a minimum, of 2x as long as needed. That is not good!
Oh and also, am I prude? I feel like a prude when I read this? That's a genuine question! Is anyone else really grossed out by the purple prose surrounding intimate moments?
