Carrie Soto—the Battle Axe, the Bitch, and frankly, one of the fucking best tennis players—Is Back 💪🏼

I ADORED THIS BOOK 😍

Granted, there were two/three things I didn't like in the book, and the narrator (I also listed to the audiobook) mispronounced a few words in Spanish that really threw me off, but that last tidbit is going to be an audible review.

Where do I begin?

Well for starters, Carrie Soto Is Back is the ONLY book I've read so far that actually writes about their respective sports in detail, and TJR did it really well 👌🏼

Secondly (if you haven't guessed it yet), this book is about tennis star, Carrie (Carolina) Soto, and she is an extremely talented and driven athlete who strives to be THE BEST tennis player in the world—in both men's and women's league history.

Coached by her dad for the majority of her life, Javier—"El Jaguar"—is a retired Argentine player who has dedicated his entire life training Carrie and other students in the sport of tennis
and when that thing happened to him towards the end... *ugly tears* 😭😭😭 I'm not lying lol I was cooking dinner with tears running down my face as I listened to the audiobook 😭

THIRDLY, I think one of the reasons why I enjoyed this book so much was because I could completely relate to Carrie Soto Is Back since my sisters and I grew up playing tennis. And while I never took it seriously (I laughed too much during sports and made those around me laugh as well lol), my eldest sister was actually a serious tennis player who was ranked in the Australia tennis thingy. So, I completely get the mentality Carrie had throughout this.

I've also seen a few reviews that have mentioned Carrie being a bitch and inconsiderate but honestly, the media attention and representation female athletes get is insane; still to this day.

- Don't you worry about looking too masculine?
- Do you ever think that your physicality will scare off suitors?
- How will you balance being a tennis player and a good mother?
- Don't you think it's time to put down the racket and start a family?

I legit wrote an essay two months ago about Women in Sports and highlighted how sport stars in tennis are treated... it's pretty fucked up.

Pay inequality, double standards and misogyny at it's finest.

Even though there were like two scenes where Carrie could have been nicer to Bowe since he was all sad and shit ALONGSIDE HER 😒 tennis is such a mentally driven sport, and while others may see it from the outside, there is so much pressure on yourself to perform since it's just you and you alone.

(not me HAHA I was fucking about too much and only took gymnastics and little athletics seriously lol)

Lastly, I did have trouble deciding on what to rate this because while Carrie Soto Is Back felt like 4 stars ⭐️ the detail in the actual games, what Carrie goes through; definitely a soft 5 stars ⭐️

P.S. I'm seriously considering reading TJR's other books because the crossovers are piquing my interest haha
