The Stranger I Wed by Harper St. George
3.0
This really isn’t terrible! I feel bad for giving it less than 4 stars, but one of my biggest pet peeves is the use of “ok” in historical pieces. I knowww, I know I’m insane for that, but it immediately kills my suspension of disbelief. I did really appreciate the amount of research that went into the different parliamentary bills taking place at the time (1870s), specifically around clean water and sanitation (the author includes Dr Snow’s research) and the beginnings of the woman’s rights movement in the UK. I also appreciate the slow burn of the romance. There are some parts that are genuinely very sweet. I don’t think the melodrama at the end is completely necessary, but eh … it is a romance book, so not wholly unexpected. All in all, it is pretty good.
