The Butcher and His Boy by Laura Lascarso

4.5

Whew, this book was kinda yucky, but also really sweet. It was really short, and yet it definitely made you care about both characters from the beginning to the end. John was such a sweet man, but his traumas with his past military career combined with his forced involvement with a violent crime family had him miserable to the point of occasional suicidal thoughts. He definitely didn't expect the job he loathed doing so much to bring him a ray of sunshine, but Bayani became just that. Poor Bayani was betrayed, abused, and left for dead, and yet he still had the strength of spirit to find joy in life again with John. It was adorable to see them become friends as Biyani healed. Cooking together, learning sign language together, and comforting each other eventually led to sweet revenge, fiery passion, and freedom, and it was very satisfying to see them both get the happy ending they deserved.
