In my opinion, Highsmith was a master of her craft. There’s a well executed sinister thread running through this novel. I saw the movie adaptation of this when I was a teenager, so I was familiar with the story, but this didn’t lessen my enjoyment. In fact I’ll probably rewatch the film soon now that I’ve read.
