Switching things up we get the couple already established in marriage and leading a very sucessful life. When Dom forgets an very important date, Ale is done and leaves.

This forces Dom to reevaluate what is important, find a balance between home and work and convince Ale these changes he will do for the rest of their lives.

This forces Ale to find herself,pursue her dreams and figure out if Dom is making changes that will save their relationship.

Small quibble is adding Dom's foster brother into the picture, doesn't add much to the story. And the mystery and threats he brings isn't resolved.
