Off Season by Jack Ketchum

I was so looking forward to reading this because I've seen it recommended by so many people, but it just didn't do it for me.

What I liked about it:
The parts that were meant to be creepy, were pretty creepy. There was a lot gore and suspense, especially in the scenes where Marjorie, Dan, Laura, and Nick are all trapped inside the house.

What I didn't like about it:
There was not a whole lot of information about any of the characters, and especially the ones we were supposed to care about. There's very little background information, and I found myself not caring too much about what happened to them.
All of the characters in the family that lives in the cave don't have names, so that was hard to follow and distracting for me.
There were SO many typos on Carla's name. It felt like at least half the time her name was mentioned, it was spelled "Carta" instead. I don't mind a typo or 2, it's bound to happen. But on one page it was spelled wrong 6 times, and it was just so distracting.

Overall this felt more like it was written for shock value than story telling, and although I did like the creepier parts, the story altogether was not a fun read for me.
