What does this book want to do? This is the question that kept running through my mind as I was going through this book. It's not the plot that drives this book; for there is none. It's a mountain trek with an ending that is being promised to be amazing but is hollow. What was that ending?

The characters then? The relationship between Harold and his wife is lacking any romance for the entire book, yet at the end we are made to believe they are madly in love and will be for all of time. Literally nowhere was that shown. A common love for their child, perhaps, but no more. Aside from that the main character is a bore, has a totally incongruous career, i.e. he is amazing and fantastic at everything, yet is too dumb to realize what turns out to be the big reveal of the book (more on that in a bit).

The main theme then? That neither. It is contrived and although the author tries to bring it to a conclusion, it falls flat. In the end, it is a mismatch of attempts, failing at every one of them.

Other than that the great reveal at the end is so ridiculous, I thought I misheard it at first and had to rewind to make sure. Then I laughed.

Audiobook version note; some of the accents are really quite atrocious.
