Black Girl, Call Home by Jasmine Mans

4.0

‘Black Girl, Call Home’ is a poetry collection that discusses themes of pop culture, feminism, queerness, blackness, religion and rape culture.

I listened to this as an audiobook while also reading the ebook and I’m glad I did that because I struggle with poetry but I keep trying with it and hearing it spoken makes it a lot easier for my brain to process it. I especially love when it’s the author narrating too.

I really enjoyed this, it was truly a beautiful piece. This really sent me through a whole rollercoaster of emotions since it’s such a personal and raw piece of work. I really feel like I lived in the author’s brain when I was listening to it. Usually after reading poetry that I liked, I never think I’m gonna reread but with this one, I think I’ll go back and reread it a couple more times to really fully absorb it.
