I Was Anastasia by Ariel Lawhon
3.5
The reverse telling of one of the stories didn’t work well for me, and I also don’t think Anna was as compelling as a person as the author seemed to think. Also, you could tell the author wanted to write a book where Anna was Anastasia - but she wasn’t! And this was proved beyond a doubt in 2007 and earlier. Not sure why the book made the most of “is she isn’t she” and I found this to be frustrating. Would have preferred if we had just had Anastasia’s story (and more of it, particularly how the family squandered their empire and lost the support of the people)
