When First I Met My King by Harper Fox

4.5

loved this! straight on into book 2 because i have a "box set" audiobook through Hoopla. Bonus that it is read by Gary Furlong who will always be Lord Courtenay for me. Maybe this is just a symptom of how few books from this era i have read, but to me it's a cross between the mists of avalon, the scottish boy, and the eagle of the ninth, all of which i fucking loved. (have not revisted mists of avalon in adulthood but it was certainly formative)

honestly i think it helps for me that i don't know the traditional arthur story well at ALL so it's all fresh to me and i have no idea what are her own additions and what is traditional, and i don't have an opinion on how the traditional story should and shouldn't be messed with. i have no idea how it would read to someone who was more familiar.
