Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

5.0

Six teenagers crushed under the heel of capitalism seek their fortunes by dabbling in human trafficking. Astounding depth of character and relationships, intricate bait-and-switch plot that demands re-reading and lengthy analysis until you are banned by your sister from mentioning Six of Crows in conversation. Also very earnestly my favourite romantic relationship in fiction: the diabolical situationship that is Kaz and Inej.

I’m bumping this up to five stars on my re-read. And to think I was so close to writing this off as an overhyped Tiktok YA fantasy. How thematically relevant for a book about being underestimated!

Original review from Oct 2023:

Literally so good and for what reason? It’s inconceivable to me that the same author wrote Shadow & Bone.
I love you Inej <3
