Wow I am blown away! This is a middle grade novel that’s somewhat in verse. (Some parts felt more in verse than others.) Our 11 year-old protagonist gives us insight on what it’s like to deal with anxiety and crushes as a preteen girl. Specifically a crush on another girl! These are important and possibly heavy topics, but they were handled so gently, with warmth and openness. It was a really beautiful technique. At the end, I actually cried! The message was so affirming. This is absolutely the kind of book I think every human can read and get something out of it! It also makes me sad that this is the kind of book some people want to ban, which is in such contrast with how necessary it is for kids to see themselves in print. Or to see people unlike themselves in print, so they can grow up to be a better, more empathetic adult.
