Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare
5.0
I was skeptical with the first book, persuaded by the second book, and head-over-heels by this finale. I felt myself holding my breath, wondering what could happen next. Some of it was predictable, and some of the story surprised me.
What I really want to touch on that confused me horribly was how Tessa managed to get both guys in the end. I love Jem with all my heart, and there was nothing in me that wanted him to die. However, there was an underlying feeling throughout the trilogy that she would end up with Will. I kept trying to wrap my head around how that could happen if Jem didn't die. So naturally, when "Jem died" halfway through the book, it felt ... right? It made sense for the story. I was not expecting for him to come back as a Silent Brother, and I certainly wasn't expecting for him to find a way around being a Silent Brother so many years in the future - and conveniently right after Will's natural death.
While I really wanted Tessa to be with Jem in the end, I found myself wishing it either hadn't happened the way it did or that it hadn't happened at all, since it was really... odd. That they're both weirdly in their late teens/early twenties YEARS in the future, and Tessa has *grandchildren* - it just made it super bizarre.
Needless to say, my favorite moments were the Lightwood brothers' change of hearts, Sophie becoming a Shadowhunter, Henry and Charlotte "discovering" that they loved each other, and Tessa changing into her clockwork angel (talk about badass). I look forward to diving into more of the Shadowhunter world.
