The Couples Trip by Ulf Kvensler

** I do not give audiobooks star ratings as I cannot analyze the prose **

Audiobook rating: meh until the end | Performance: just fine

Leave it to Nordic Noir to make you go whhuUUUUUTTTTT??? when the shoe finally dropped. This was a pretty standard 'thriller' sans the thrills tbh until the last 15% or so. I'm glad I did audio because there was a lot of closed caption writing and a distinct lack of the nuance that I expect from Nordic Noir. However, THAT ENDING THO???? I literally had to rewind and listen again because it caught me unawares. I think this is in part due to the first 85% of the book being so standard and lacklustre, that I wasn't expecting such an emotional and 'complex' reveal. If the rest of the book had been like the end, it would've been a banger for sure. The ending was almost on par with the twist in [b:The Ice Beneath Her|30184856|The Ice Beneath Her (Flickorna och mörkret, #1)|Camilla Grebe|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1463205876l/30184856._SY75_.jpg|50630042] tbh. 5/5. But the rest was giving me dry ass oatmeal served with a stale slice of whole wheat bread.
