When I'm Dead by Hannah Morrissey

4.0

When I’m Dead is a gritty police procedural made even darker by the fact that it takes place close to Halloween and it focuses on teen bullying. It focuses more on the personal side of the victims, suspects and investigating officers rather than on actual police policy. But that is to be expected in a small town where everyone knows everyone, rumors are rampant, and the homicide detective and his medical examiner wife are the parents of a teenage girl who is discovered to be missing after her supposed best friend was found brutally murdered on a trail near their neighborhood. While When I’m Dead is book 3 in the Black Harbor series, it is the town of Black Harbor which is the commonality not the main characters, so it definitely reads as a standalone.
