The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman
4.0
It's different than I thought it would be, although not in a bad way different. It carries that kind of feeling an old book written at a different time does.
It takes a little time to get used to the fantasy world here because it uses names of countries and areas from the real world (or convincingly close to it) that I at times had to remind myself that this is a fantasy world.
This book is written for older children and it has that sweet feeling of carrying you through the story. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It has a little bit of Narnia vibes in that it carries some strong Christian undertones and a child is the one going through the whole quest.
