The Virgin Rule Book by Lauren Blakely

4.0

It’s cute, funny. Lots of sports puns. Lots.

I used to read a lot of Lauren Blakely. She has a very defined writing style and it’s a lot of fun. But it’s also a bit juvenile in my personal opinion. Now, don’t mistake that to be a bad thing. Sometimes it’s a nice change. She has a very good way of getting to the point without a bunch of flowery extras.

Until they kiss. And then it’s ‘the best kiss in the history of the world and it means so much and my heart is fluttering and my mind is aching and it’s perfect and...’ are you getting my point? It’s a tiny bit annoying. And it was very obvious in this one.

There are also a TON of sports puns. Now, it was made clear that this was on purpose. Our hero is very proud to be an All Star Major League Baseball player. His confidence is hot. And the fact that he’s not just proud to be with an extremely powerful and wealthy woman, but he finds it exceedingly sexy is absolutely awesome.

The brothers best friend, friends to lovers aspect is also wonderful. Slowly seeing them realize that they’ve basically been crushing on each other all of their lives is really fun to watch.

Although, I will say that the big moment when you wonder if it’s all going to fall apart (the one that you expect in every single romance novel because it’s a necessary plot device that we all devour) is a bit reaching in my opinion. I won’t get into why because I won’t spoil it, but I think a different and stronger choice could have been made.

It also has a lot of tie ins to other books and set ups for future books. I respect the choice. But it’s a lot of secondary characters. Frankly, a few too many in my personal opinion.

It’s hilarious and easy to read. It’s sweet and fun. It was definitely worth the cost. I’d honestly say it’s one of my favorite Lauren Blakely stories. But probably not my number one. I recommend it to all romcom lovers. Particularly LB fans and those who haven’t read any of her work recently.
