Dragon's Oath by Kristin Cast, P.C. Cast
4.0
Before I give my review, I'd like to clarify that a 4 star rating from me is very good. Books that I love get a 4, 5 being reserved for the books that have impacted me in a very strong way.
I wasn't sure what to expect from a House of Night book that wasn't about the main cast of the series. I was pleasantly surprised. Oftentimes, books that take a supporting character and make them a main character are dull and awkwardly develop the supporting character in ways that don't seem to fit within the context of the original series. Dragon's Oath develops the characters of Anastasia and Dragon beautifully while remaining true to their characters as seen in the main series.
P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast take their minor characters and breathe more dynamic and complex life into them within the text of Dragon's Oath, bringing a further understanding and new perspective to the main series. Readers will not be able to look at Dragon and Anastasia the same after reading this book - they will be far more complex and real than they were before.
I would not recommend reading this book without having read at least part of the HoN series. Reading it too soon will spoil parts of the original series and make understanding this book more difficult, as it relies upon an already present understanding of the vampyre universe presented within the HoN novels.
