Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay

3.0

I found myself setting this book aside for extended periods of time, not because I didn't like it, and not because I didn't appreciate what Roxane Gay was trying to articulate, but I just found myself wondering why this wasn't more of a discussion on feminism. The more I read it became clear it was more of a memoir, and of her lived experiences, which are very harsh, real, and raw. Quite a few reviews I skimmed through spoke on how she didn't seem to challenge herself with regard to the discussion of feminism, given the name of the book, but I do think she still challenged herself to open up about her life, and the impact of experiences she still carries with her.

I like when books, like this one, challenge me to look at myself and my privilege. Her message is clear: we're all human beings living and learning every single day.
