People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry
5.0
i actually devoured this book. i could not put it down for 12 hours and i’m usually really mad at myself for not taking my time reading ridiculously good books, but i wouldn’t have had this any other way. this masterpiece is meant to be taken in all at once to feel maximum Longing and Yearning and Aching and Loving.
friends to lovers romances tend to lean heavy into the lovers part and not so much develop their friendship, but emily henry destroyed that. for once, i got a real friendship, a really strong platonic, amical bond that didn’t transform over time into a romance and left the friendship behind. every aspect of poppy and alex’s friendlationship was so realistic and fun—this book is SO funny. emily henry’s humour is unrivalled, i have never read such a genuinely funny, witty, GOOFY book.
poppy is probably one of the best protagonists i’ve ever read. she’s real and flawed and passionate and caring and sometimes insane, which i love. thankfully i am not a professional reviewer of anything because it is 7am, i’ve been up since 6 because even in my unconsciousness i was thinking about finishing this book and getting more poppy and alex, and all that is in my head right is “i love this so much” bouncing around like an old static tv logo.
this climbed immediately up my top 3 books of all time list, no competition, within the first 100 pages. genuinely an amazing book.
