I hated everything about this book that started rather innocuously. Much of this will be under a spoiler tag. In short, this book is trauma-laden for trauma's sake. It felt dramatic, unrealistic and there just to catch readers in like a spider's web.
This was a love triangle book done super-bad. Told in past/present with the past being over seven summers. The FMC moons over Finn (wishy washy d*ck) for seven years of her life, being let down again and again. Meanwhile, the trauma commences, Liv's parents are killed in a car crash, Finn's mother took her life by suicide. The first summer was interesting. Then we had 6 summers of rinse and repeat while Finn went off to the US and lived there becoming a famous rock star (eye roll) and visiting the UK for days or a few weeks in the summer. Their 'undying love' for one another totted up to a massive few months together in total.
In the present, Liv wakes up from her Finn haze after calling quits last summer and meets Tom. But wait for it...this decent guy has a life threatening condition. We see her finally choose Tom over wishy washy Finn. A bit more trauma over IVF. Then we get seven epilogues. No, that is not a typo, we got seven. And guess what, Toon kills off lovely Tom in epilogue five. Yep, she really did. Fear not, because Liv gets another HEA with wishy washy Finn in epilogue seven.
This is not romance, or an endearing love story. It's also not for me.
