Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
3.0
I knew Jane Austen was not my favorite, but I thought I would give this a try again now in English and also along with the Greek audio book.
It looks like I still stand by my first impression that the writing is very good, and that is why 3 stars, but I don't find anything too special about it. It is an Ok book, I just don't find it to be the masterpiece that I hear in the popular opinion and it is the favorite book of many. For me, it was just Ok, and several times I could have stopped reading and not feel anything about it.
Certainly, there were parts in the beginning that I loved and I loved Austen's subtle humor, and there were also parts that I loved in the last chapters. However, the middle found me indifferent and I felt that it dragged on. Maybe if it was 50-100 pages smaller, I could have found it more interesting.
As for the characters, Lydia and Mrs. Bennett are insufferable. I do have to admit that I like Austen's descriptions of the characters. I think that is her strongest point and possibly why so many people love her.
I think I liked Sense and Sensibility more when I read it also years ago, but still is not more than 3 stars for me. I am planning to read it again though to see if I might change my mind on that one.
