The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston

5.0

isabella when i catch you...

was the plot pretty predictable? yes but i loved every minute of it.

i LOVE the love between ben and florence. the way they're able to heal separately and together. i love that they've BEEN having ties to each other --multiple ones-- meaning that there were multiple red strings of fate connecting the two. i mean, fate isn't real but it felt real enough here.

i wish we saw more of ben
Spoilertweaking out when he really thought he was dead
. i wish we would've dug into his back story a bit more and what exactly shaped him into the cold and meticulous person that he is. but honestly i don't mind because we were able to experience his development and how him and florence shaped each other.

the depiction of grief and mourning was just toooooo good. it really isn't a void - it's a space filled with all that was and what could have been. corny! but it's loud, non linear, and messy. it gets pushed aside until it can't anymore, and it's just... there. the family dynamics shown were done so well - nobody was the villain. they were all just hurting and didn't know how to bring it up. loved those relationships within the family, honestly.

it still doesn't make sense to me that flo never put in her contract that she would get residuals from the books she wrote, but i digress.

tldr: lee's an asshole, and i love this corny lil book

ALSO i love when books have discussion questions at the end hehe
