The beginning of this book focuses on the death of Macy's father and how she and her family cope with that loss, and a poor relationship with my own father had me feeling a disconnect to the story for a while. I considered dnfing, but I'm glad I persisted. Once the book shifts to Macy rediscovering herself, I really enjoyed going on that journey with her as she finds the job with Wish catering and makes new friends. This feels like a story of coming to terms with life and who you are rather than living up to other people's expectations of you. Macy's love story takes time to end satisfactorily, but I loved the ending.
