The Iliad by Homer
5.0
(Re: the Fagles translation) -- probably the weaker of the two Homeric epics, which says more about the absurdly high quality of the Odyssey than any faults the Iliad may have. This is a work of titanic scale, and the reader is served best by letting the names and descriptions of places, battles, etc. wash over them like a wave. Fagles' translation does a magnificent job of preserving the magnificent descriptions (in the case of battle scenes, of which there are many...quite grisly ones, too).
Put simply: it's Avengers: End Game but from 2500 years ago, and if that doesn't sound positively bad-ass, I dunno what to tell you.
