This book is excellent, and it makes a lot of excellent and though-provoking points. George Orwell writes with talent, insight, madness, and genius to create a terrifying futuristic society ruled by a manipulative, power hungry government sustained by hatred, violence, and lies. It is a world that lacks all privacy and creativity, where all of history and all perceived truth is controlled by one infamous organization: the Party. What's also terrifying is that while this society may seem a long way off, hints and traces of it can even be seen in our world today. Fair warning, though: it is a bit depressing. Still, would highly recommend.
