Building a Bridge: How the Catholic Church and the Lgbt Community Can Enter Into a Relationship of Respect, Compassion, and Sensitivity by James Martin
4.0
the fact that anyone is upset by this book is unbelievable. it’s a small reminder to be kind, accepting, and forgiving, and it’s a place to start. the only people who are upset do not recognize this book for what it is: a starting point. it’s not a solution, but it’s very warm and very open. it’s a reminder not only to the church but to the lgbt community that we (lgbt catholics) exist as part of the body of christ. just because i don’t have a problem reconciling these two parts of myself doesn’t mean that journey is easy for everyone, and i just think this book is a good place to start, so i don’t have to hear: “that girl wearing the jesus shirt is in for a rude awakening when she realizes she’s gay” anymore, as if those two things can’t exist in the same person. as if being gay and being christian can not coexist.
