Original review: While I got into the Sookie Stackhouse series later then most..ok after the tv show, it quickly became my favorite book series. I have found many series I love and try to share with all my friends, but nothing has ever compared to my love for Sookie Stackhouse.
It has been a year between books, and I have been dreading the release of Dead Ever After, only because I know it was the series finally. Charlaine Harris does a nice smooth recap of what has happened in the series and last book. One of my biggest pet peeve is when authors do a horrible job reexplaining what happened in past books, but Charlaine finds a nice balance. Old characters from past books are mentioned in Dead Ever After, some I recognized but could not pin point their importance. Charlaine helps jog your memory on these characters and events. For awhile I have been speculating how the series would end. My theories went from extreme sadness to happily ever after. My theories included 1.Sookie working things out with Eric. 2. Getting back with Bill. 3. Bill and Eric die tragically. But deep down I knew she was going to end up vampire free whether they died or not. The last two books, I have not been happy with Eric, and how the relationship seemed to be going with Sookie. I honestly wish Sookie would have ended up with Eric in the end, but Sam has always been in the background through all these years.
Charlaine Harris has received a lot of blow back for how Dead Ever After ends, but honestly I feel she did justice to the series. The ending wasn't rushed and for those who have kept up with the series. Sam is the logical choice. Sam and Sookie ending up together goes nicely with the story and the characters background and histories.
"I am Sookie Stackhouse. I belong here".
