Prairie Lotus by Linda Sue Park

5.0

If you like Little House on the Prairie, please read this book! Not only will you get to enjoy the Little House language of lean-tos and calico fabric and wood stoves again, but you will get something missing from Little House: what it was like to be a settler in the same time and place as Laura Ingalls and her family, but as a non-white person. This book also provides a more even-handed view of the treatment of First Nations Peoples in a way that is understandable and gentle.

I enjoyed the story and the main character, Hanna, so much that I read this in one day.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
