Blackberry Winter by Sarah Jio
4.0
Blackberry Winter is a beautiful novel tying the past to the present, highlighting family history and problems with prejudices with social class. Vera is a struggling single mother living in Seattle in the 1930s. Her son, Daniel, disappears one night and the story of her search for him is juxtaposed with Claire's story in 2010, a reporter who lost her unborn child in a terrible accident a year ago. There has been a terrible winter storm in May and Claire has been charged by her newspaper editor to write a story about a similar storm taking place in the 1930s, leading Claire to discover Daniel's story. In her pursuit of the truth, she discovers astonishing connections between their lives that lead her toward healing. LOVED this book! It captivated me right from the start.
