Introducing Mr. Second Chance by Essie Sloane

4.0

We met Shaun and Benji in the first book of this series, where the story of Reed, Benji's brother, and Liam, Shaun's best friend, was told. There, Benji and Shaun are dating, but Shaun decides to accept a job offer in another state. This doesn't sit well with Benji, he feels that Shaun doesn't care for him too much, because even though he tells Benji about the job, he decides to take it regardless of what happens with Benji. So Benji decides it's best to break up.

Shaun has his doubts, he feels that he is probably making a mistake, what's more, already getting on the plane, he knows he made a mistake, losing Benji is really painful, but now it's too late, and he needs to prove himself that despite everything he will succeed.

Their book begins three years later. Three miserable years later for Shaun, who did achieve the success he desired, but the loneliness he has felt since he moved, the emptiness of being away from home, from his family and his best friend can't be filled with anything. And deep inside himself, the loss of Benji is the hardest thing to get over of all, even though he refuses to admit it out loud. Until all of this becomes unbearable and he asks for a transfer, deciding to return home.

Times were also hard for Benji, but somehow, he manages to get over it. He tries to maintain some connection with Shaun through texts, after all, they have close people in common. But he believes that he no longer feels the same. He dates other people, and moves on with his life, but when he finds out Shaun is coming back he feels everything shake around him, though he tries to hide it.
And though they try to avoid it, they fall back into an easy friendship that soon turns again into something more, although Shaun still feels guilty about how he handled their situation years ago, and Benji feels that he can't trust Shaun. He's afraid Shaun will leave him behind again.

But finally they manage to communicate and bet on the love that they feel for each other again.

A sweet, romantic story, with a strong chemistry between the two MCs, who when they put fears and doubts aside, show a deep bond between them, the kind that one only meets once in a lifetime. I liked it quite a bit, maybe not as much as the first book, which I really loved, but enough to look forward to the next book.

I was given an advanced copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
