The Obelisk Gate by N.K. Jemisin

5.0

Another WOW!!! for author N.K. Jemisin.
The Obelisk Gate is the book 2 in the trilogy of The Broken Earth, and I'm as impressed as I was with the book 1. Both books I felt they demanded my undivided attention as they're not easy, light reads, but they're worth it!

The Obelisk Gate made even clearer to me what was happening in book 1 (The Fifth Season), and I truly enjoyed reading it all the way from page one to its enthralling ending. Excluding the occasional f-word that isn't to my taste, book 2, just like book 1, is absolutely beautifully written! Very dark and grim, original, creative, I believe different than anything else in the fantasy genre, and it's worth reading even if just for its great ending that makes you yearn for more, not because it's not good enough, but because it's sooo good that you don't want to let go, so it throws you straight into the book #3. I love it as much, if not more, as I loved book #1, and eagerly looking forward to starting book #3.
PS. Having said that, despite Jemisin's beautiful writing, there have also been quite a few glaring grammatical/sentence structure errors that made me think that the book needed better editing; however, these errors are not enough and they don't take away from the book's overall beauty and creativity.
